It was fantastic to celebrate with 11 Carterton citizens to officially welcome them to New Zealand with our first citizenship since 2020. Thank you to Hurunui-o-rangi Marae for to pลwhiri, and to St Maryโs school tamariki for your beautiful waiata and powerful haka.
Former Councillor Jill Greathead and Former Mayor Greg Lang received a special presentation by Mayor Hon. Ron Mark to acknowledge their significant contribution to the community over the years.
Both had the opportunity to speak before being presented with a pounamu. Greg was also presented with a certificate from Ministers Nanaia Mahuta and Kieran McAnulty, recognising his service as Mayor.

- Draft interim speed management plan: Following the meeting the draft plan will be reviewed by management and changes made, and brought back to council before revised draft being out to the public for consultation in early 2023. No speed reductions will be finalised before a public consultation has taken place and public feedback formally considered by council.
- New Road Name: The council welcomed the developer of a subdivision at Kent Street to bring their request back to council after consulting with Tangata Whenua at Hurunui-o-rangi marae.
- We have confirmation of $918k of Transport Choices Package funding from Waka Kotahi for a 6 point pathway through schools (see previous announcement)
- We have been successful in our application to the Governmentโs Better Off Funding Scheme. We have received $1.7m which is earmarked for Eastern Growth Area, Five Towns Trail and Local Cycle Trail Masterplan, Mฤori Responsiveness Strategy and Action Plan, Land-Based Discharge of Treated Wastewater and Nursery Investigation, and Climate Management and Mitigation.
- Council is currently working on soft plastic and battery recycling being brought to Carterton from early 2023.
