Please take extra care at the Norfolk Road level crossing as KiwiRail repairs safety signals following a recent collision.
Council contractors erected temporary stop signs on the crossing near the Waingawa Road junction.
Please slow down as you approach the crossing, come to a complete stop, and look both ways for trains. Do not cross if a train is approaching.
A KiwiRail spokesperson said despite the signage, vehicles are travelling through the crossing without coming to a complete stop or reducing their speed.
“We would like to remind people that disobeying a stop sign at a level crossing is dangerous and against the law.
“Please slow down as you approach the crossing, come to a complete stop, and look both ways for trains. Do not cross if a train is approaching.”
Stop signs will be in place for the next few months until the repairs are complete.
