ROAD CLOSURE – NORFOLK ROAD
2.30pm update
Norfolk Road is now open, however, as a result of the accident the railway signals are not working on both Norfolk Road and Norman Ave.
We will install stop signs on both roads. We will also install an electronic sign board on Norfolk Road today, and one on Norman Avenue on Monday when one becomes available.
The Norfolk Road signals could take up to three months to be repaired by Kiwirail. The Norman Avenue signals are anticipated to be repaired within a week.
12:28pm update
The intersection between SH2 and Norfolk Road is now open, but Norfolk Road from the railway crossing is still closed and will remain closed for a few more hours. We expect the next update to be around 2pm
10.48AM
Emergency services are attending a serious crash on Norfolk Road, Carterton where a car and train have collided around 10am.
One person is understood to have serious injuries.
A helicopter has been dispatched to the scene.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and use an alternative route.
