On 16 and 17 November, we will be carrying out work at the level crossing on Brooklyn Road

What’s happening?

  • Digging a trench and installing ducting under the railway lines at the Kent Street level crossing.
  • Installing new concrete telecommunication pits.
  • Using machinery that may be noisy at times.
  • Traffic management in place with shoulder closures and potentially full road closure at times (with detour in place).
  • Daytime work between 7.30am and 5pm only.

Why is it happening?

This is part of the Wairarapa Line upgrade, ready for faster more frequent train services from 2029.  We will be coming back to complete the full crossing upgrade at Brooklyn Road early next year.

In Carterton we will be upgrading six of your eight level crossings and closing two – Victoria and Rhodes Street.

We have included an information flyer about the Wairarapa Line upgrade, and you can read about the work at kiwirail.co.nz/our-network/our-regions/wellington/Wairarapa-line.

You can also email us at contactus@kiwirail.co.nz.

Thanks from the KiwiRail team
