We are keeping an eye on the latest forecasts from MetService New Zealand (metservice.com/warnings), who are tracking Tropical Cyclone Vaianu. At this stage, severe wind and heavy rain are being forecast for parts of Aotearoa over the weekend, and the lower North Island is currently under a strong wind watch. While we do have good weather, we encourage everyone to take steps now to prepare in case conditions worsen. More significant weather is currently expected on Sunday. Make sure you are prepared. We will continue to share updates as more information becomes available; you can also stay informed through the relevant links shared below.
Prepare Your Property and Whānau

Taking action early can make a big difference:

  • Make a plan for your whānau and pets
  • Have enough food and medication for at least a week, in case access is cut off
  • Have torches and a battery‑powered or solar radio ready
  • Bring loose outdoor items inside and tie down trampolines (turn them upside down)
  • Clear branches, firewood, and debris from around your property
  • Clear leaves and rubbish from drains
  • Move livestock to safe, sheltered areas
  • Check on neighbours who may need help
  • Check our wremo.nz/get-ready/home-ready for more practical steps you can take
Be Ready to Move if Needed
  • Be ready to self‑evacuate during daylight if you live near waterways or in isolated areas
  • If you have been isolated in past weather events and want to avoid this, consider coming into town early and staying with friends or whānau
