The election of four community members (water race users or water race ratepayers) on to the Water Race Committee occurs every three years, and the election is now due. The committee oversees the management of the Carrington and Taratahi water races and makes recommendations to Council as required.

The voting period for election of four community members on to the Water Race election opened on Friday 9 August.

Each water race ratepayer was sent one voting form in the mail. This should be received in your mailbox from the middle of next week onwards.

The voting period closes 4pm Monday 9 September.

  • You can return your vote in the mail, or by delivering it to the Carterton District Council office, 28 Holloway St.
  • Note that if you plan to post your voting paper you need to do so at least 5 days before the closing date.

The successful candidates need to consist of at least one from the Taratahi Water Race and one from the Carrington Water Race.

In the event that the four highest polling candidates are from one water-race system [e.g. Taratahi] the three with the most votes will be elected and the highest polling candidate from the other system [e.g. Carrington] will also be elected.
