Carterton’s summer swim season is set to be a hit after the Council announces slide upgrades and a new contractor.
Last summer saw the installation of a new pool slide, thanks to the collaboration between young Carterton resident Molly O’Dwyer, Ka Pai Carterton, Trust House, Carterton District Council, and other generous funders. The slide was hugely popular with pool goers who gave ideas on how to make the new addition even more fun. After receiving feedback, the Council installed a water pump, allowing water to flow freely down the slide giving users a smoother and faster ride. Council staff also altered the angle at the bottom of the slide to help ease the transition from the slide to the pool.
One thing missing from the pools this year is Russell Geange and his amazing crew, who have staffed the pools and helped keep patrons safe for more than 20 years. Carterton District Council facilities manager Glenda Seville said Russell’s experience and commitment has been appreciated by the whole community.
“I would like to thank Russell and the swim school staff for their years of commitment, without which, we wouldn’t have been able to provide summer swimming for our residents,” Glenda said.
“We’re excited to announce a new partnership with Belgravia Leisure to ensure our residents can still access the pools this summer.”
Belgravia Leisure comes with a wealth of facility management experience as the current managers of Trust House Recreation Centre in Masterton.
Belgravia Leisure General Manager, Mark Blake said it is a privilege to take responsibility of Carterton Pool after Russell’s outstanding service.
“Naturally staff who have served at the pool last year will have the opportunity to stay and we hope and believe we can serve the Carterton Community well in what I’m sure will be a wonderful hot summer”.
Carterton’s outdoor pool continues to be free of charge, with open hours available on our website at www.cdc.govt.nz/swimming
