Join Our Team as a Library Assistant!
- Part-Time Positions (20 hours per week)
- Must be available to work Saturdays 9am-1pm on a rostered basis
Are you enthusiastic about promoting literacy and learning in your community? We are seeking three Library Assistants to provide exceptional customer service and support the vibrant atmosphere of our library. Purpose of the Role:
As a Library Assistant, you will deliver friendly, professional service to our library customers, assisting them in navigating a variety of library and non-library resources. Your role will be essential in supporting efficient library operations and ensuring a welcoming environment. This will include, but is not limited to:
- Providing friendly and professional front-of-house service, including answering enquiries, processing memberships, and handling reserves.
- Responding to customer inquiries in a warm and helpful manner.
- Assisting customers in finding age-appropriate and interest-related materials for their informational and leisure reading needs, referring complex inquiries to senior staff as necessary.
- Managing internet computer usage and assist customers as needed.
- Completing various behind-the-scenes tasks, including covering and repairing books.
- Supporting library programming and events.
- Proactively embrace current and emerging technology, using digital skills to assist customers and staff in accessing information resources.
- Demonstrate a commitment to promoting the use and visibility of te reo Māori.

- Outstanding communication skills and ability to build relationships.

- Ability to handle a wide range of unpredictable questions and situations.
- Collaborative mindset with a good understanding of information rights, data privacy principles, and legislation.
- Discretion, empathy, and sound judgment in all interactions.
- Respect and sensitivity to cultural diversity.
Job Requirements:
- Minimum qualification of National Certificate Level 3 or NCEA Level 3.
- Available to work Saturdays 9am-1pm on a rostered basis
- At least 2 years of customer service or relevant industry experience.
- Understanding of public library operations.
- Physically robust; able to stand for extended periods, lift boxes, and handle books.
- Commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and a developing understanding of te reo and tikanga Māori.
- Current New Zealand driver’s licence.
