Carterton community organisations and groups are invited to attend the Carterton edition of the Wairarapa Funders Forum, an expo-style event dedicated to connecting local initiatives with a wide range of funding opportunities.

Part of a regional series, the Carterton event will take place on Tuesday, 20 May 2025, from 3pm to 6pm, at the Wairarapa Events Centre.

The expo provides clear information on funding sources available in the region with representatives from funding organisations on hand to share insights and answer questions.

Hon. Ron Mark, Mayor of Carterton, said the Funders Forum is a one-stop-shop for community groups and organisations looking for grant support to assist them in upcoming projects.

“These Funders Forum events are brilliant opportunities for local community groups and organisations to easily navigate the world of grant funding, with experts right there to provide one-on-one advice, remove the stress, and help point you in the right direction,” Mayor Mark said.

“I encourage any local groups and organisations looking for funding support to attend the expo and discover the fantastic opportunities for support that exist in our community.”

Local groups from a variety of sectors, including sports, arts, and social services, have already registered to attend. Among them is Carterton Kyokushin Karate Dojo.

Shihan Alex Terris, Trustee and Group Leader of the Carterton Kyokushin Karate Dojo Registered Charitable Trust, said Carterton Dojo will attend the forum to discover what relevant support options are available in the region.

“Top of our list is the ability to assist families with training fees for tamariki and rangatahi in situations where cost is currently a deterrent to attendance. The possibility and guidance on how to find our own dedicated training venue in Carterton is also part of our future vision,” Shihan Alex said.

“We’ll also investigate funding options for training equipment, teacher koha and group travel costs for upcoming Rural North and South Island training camps,” he added.

The Carterton edition of the Wairarapa Funders Forum is open to all community groups, clubs, and organisations in the Carterton area. Additional events will be held in Masterton and South Wairarapa on May 21 and 22, respectively.

Additional information:
The Carterton Kyokushin Karate Dojo Charitable Trust was formed to benefit tamariki/rangatahi and their family members in the Carterton District, through Karate training in a safe space with expert guidance.

Current attendance at sessions includes members in family groups, from 5 to 50 years old. These combined year-round weekly sessions provide a family activity with all members working on the ethos that ‘effort is its own reward’ and achievement together (Mahi Tahi) is fun.

Self-confidence and self-awareness through self-defence comes quickly to tamariki and rangatahi when supported by adults in their family. Karate is an inside undercover year-round activity.
