Carterton District Council has voted to progress the next stage of the Carrington Park play space and skate area upgrade, approving an additional $900,000 to complete the project, with no extra cost to rates.

The funding will come entirely from the Reserves Contribution Fund and Parks & Reserves Depreciation Reserve, meaning the project remains fully funded through existing reserves already set aside for community infrastructure.

The decision allows the project to move forward as one complete construction programme, reducing community disruption and ensuring the redesigned play space and integrated skate area can be delivered together.

Check out the updated design
Council has released the latest concept layout showing the refined play space, including the community favourite treetop towers, and the staged approach to the skate area. The revised design reflects cost‑savings made since June 2025 while retaining the key features the community consistently supported.

Why the extra funding?
Updated pricing following detailed design work confirmed that delivering both Stage 1 (play space) and Stage 2 (skate area) required additional investment.
Council approved the increase to ensure the project can be built to a high standard while staying within a realistic budget and without delaying work across multiple years.

Next steps
Council staff will now:

  • refine the scope where needed to stay within the approved budget
  • proceed with procurement and tendering processes
  • provide progress updates through the Policy and Projects Committee

The upgrade marks the most significant investment in Carrington Park in more than 15 years, creating a modern, accessible, multi‑generational recreation space for the whole community.
