Between April 7 and 13, KiwiRail will carry out upgrade work at the level crossing on Belvedere Road. A full road closure will be in place at Belvedere Road and Wheatstone Street, with traffic management and detours in place.
The road will then reopen for three weeks, before closing again in early May as works resume.
As with other level crossing upgrades, this work includes a new pedestrian crossing with a maze, gates and warning signals, plus raised concrete median strips. Wheatstone Street will be changing to one way from the train station to Belvedere Road, to avoid traffic sitting too close to the railway line.
The Wairarapa line upgrade is a $350 million investment in making it safer and more resilient, ready for the arrival of faster moving and more frequent services from 2029.
