Candidate Statement
My principal place of residence is in the Carterton District Council area. I am also standing for Council – At Large.
Carterton needs a vision of where we want to be in 10 years and beyond. We all need to be excited about our future and proud of our town. Many issues faced are not just Cartertons, but Wairarapa wide including water resilience and transport.
I want Carterton to be the place of choice for people wanting to move to the Wairarapa.
Your Mayor is the chief advocate and sales person for your district. You need a person who is passionate, articulate and a team player. The mayor also needs to have a can-do attitude with a sense of urgency to get things done. From my experience working in both public service and running my own multinational business, I have what it takes.
Being Mayor is not a job – it is a calling! Vote Simon Casey for Mayor of Carterton.

Video transcript
I am originally from Wellington where I first worked in the public service and in corporates.
I started my own multinational business. After 20 years I sold it to live the dream in the Wairarapa.
Like other Carterton residents, I have invested my future here. I want to protect that investment. To do that, we need a long term plan for growth. Where do we want to be in say 30 years time – not just 3.
The top priorities are both for Carterton and the Wairarapa.
• Advocate for a better road over the Remutaka Hill & for a more reliable train connection.
• Plan for a heavy vehicle bypass for Carteron to prevent trucks from cutting our town in half.
• Plan for a modern retail Mega Centre in Carterton to service the whole of the Wairarapa
• Work on council amalgamation to reduce ratepayer cost and to better engage with the government.
The biggest challenge is to grow the population of Carterton and make it more affordable. I will do this by:
- Growing industry and therefore jobs
- Making it more family friendly
- Providing more affordable housing.
I am passionate about the Wairarapa and I have the skills to be an effective advocate and mayor for our amazing district.
