Candidate Statement

My principal place of residence is in the area.

Kia ora. As a long time Carterton resident, I believe in the good people of our town. I believe we should be well represented by all and it is everyone’s job to look after our whānau. I hold to Christian values and my background is technology and engineering. My wife and I own a restaurant, and our son attends school locally.

I am committed to protecting the environment, and believe the only way to protect the environment is to act locally, and provide the industries with the tools needed to improve themselves.

I want local small businesses to thrive, so our community is resilient in the face of adversity.

I don’t believe in wasting money, and will hold myself and other members accountable for spending. I am also technologically astute and will question why we are doing things a particular way to ensure value.

Hello, I’m Simon Peacock and I’m standing for council. I am an electrician and an engineer and I believe it’s everybody’s job to put themselves forward from time to time. I think this is my time. My background gives me a wide range of topics and I want to see what we can do together to make Carterton better.

I think the council probably has a lot on its plate already. I would like to see how we can smooth some of those things out. I’ve heard stories about the sewage system being problematic with new changes through inside knowledge. I would like to see if we can make sure that the sewage system is going, all of the things that council have planned are actually progressing, and we’re making good use of the funds that we have been allocated.

Biggest challenges. Firstly keeping our supermarket, secondly keeping our bank and thirdly keeping our young people. Times are changing. I grew up in an internet world, our kids are growing up in AI. There’s no future for the young engineers and the young people. We need to look at that. We need to make sure that we are providing something for them.
