***UPDATE: Carterton District Road Closures***

Work to safeguard Glenburn Road between Te Wharau and Cameron Roads continues after this month’s heavy weather event.

Contractors are working on site to clear slips, cleaning culverts and water tables. The road will be closed while a crew works to clear the slips.

A temporary 30km per hour speed limit will be in place at other times.

Access to and from Flat Point is available via Te Wharau Road.

  • A grader will be attend Waiohine Gorge Road and Mangaterere Valley Road on Monday [16 January].
  • Roading teams will continue to monitor existing and known flooding spots
  • All roads must be driven with extreme caution potential for slips, trees and debris to still be coming down. Roads could be blocked at anytime

 


 

***HEAVY RAIN WATCH: UPDATE: 2PM, 12 JANUARY****

Te Wharau Road

Slips near the junction of Te Wharau Road and Ngatawhai Road are cleared and the road is passable with care.

Local drivers are urged to drive with caution.

Te Wharau Road remains closed at the 26km point.

Site investigations discovered slips as well the fallen trees reported on Wednesday morning [11 January].

Crews are working hard to clear the slips, but there is no set timeline for reopening the road as yet.

Contractors are working to clear the minor slips further down the road, formed after Kokorua Dam Lake. More slips may have formed with more recent rainfall.

Clearing Te Wharau Road before the junction with Westmere Road is ongoing to ensure access for residents there, and ahead of the next stages of this week’s New Zealand Cycle Classic.

  • Due to the severe flooding, Dalefield Road will be closing soon between the Hodders Road and Thomas Road intersections.

Te Wharau Road blocked [impacts Craigie Lea, Glenburn, Cameron, and Flatpoint Roads]

Te Wharau Road is currently blocked by a fallen tree. A crew is en route to clear the area.

The blockage will affected the following roads, which adjoin Te Wharau Road:

  • Craigie Lea Road
  • Glenburn Road
  • Cameron Road
  • Flatpoint Road
