Carterton has been placed under the Orange setting in the new “traffic light” [COVID-19 Protection Framework] system.
This means:
- Children under 8 years old need to be accompanied by a supervisor aged 16 years and over with a Vaccine Pass.
- Children aged 12 years and older will need to show a Vaccine Pass upon entry.
- You need to bring your Vaccine Pass with you every time you visit our pools. No pass = No swim
Please do not take out your frustrations on our lifeguards – they did not make the rules, but they will enforce them.

About our pools
The outdoor baths were officially opened in October 1911 and were built on an existing quarry pit.
The main pool was 50 yards long and 25 yards wide making it the largest outdoor pool in New Zealand at the time.
The current complex comprises of three pools- the main pool, the learners pool and the toddlers pool.
The variety of pool sizes and depths, and with the addition on newly installed sun shade sails, makes the complex an ideal location for family outings and/or picnics.
It is also one of the few pools in the country that provides free admission.
