STRONG WIND *WATCH*: Wellington & Wairarapa
MetService New Zealand has also issued a Strong Wind Watch for Wellington to Marlborough Sounds & Wairarapa from 8am to 6pm Friday.
Watches are issued when severe weather is possible, but not imminent or certain. While we normally only post when there is a Warning in place, we thought it would be best to give everyone a heads-up as there is also a heavy rain warning in place. This watch could be upgraded to a warning and we will let you know if this happens.
Northwest winds may approach severe gale in exposed places.
  • Strong wind gusts like these could damage trees, powerlines and unsecured structures.
  • Take extra care on the roads (especially for high-sided vehicles and motorcycles).
  • Secure any outdoor items like wheelie bins, trampolines and outdoor furniture that may blow around.
