It is with immense sadness we say goodbye to our good friend Lorraine Gittings.

Lorraine passed away Sunday morning, surrounded by her family. Lorraine is survived by her husband Dave (our infrastructure and services manager), her two adored children and her two much loved grandchildren.

When she was diagnosed over 5 years ago, Lorraine was our fantastic community services manager based in the Events Centre. She was instrumental in taking the Events Centre from a concept, into a thriving vibrant, community and events space.

Lorraine was a fighter, but sadly that fight had to come to an end. While beating the odds, she continued to put her passion, energy and drive into the community through advocating for those less fortunate, as well as volunteering on many committees, including the creative communities committee which she joined just a month before she passed.
Lorraine had a larger than life personality, and was a solid supporter of the council, its staff, the community and Carterton. She wasn’t one to mince her words, but she had a deep care and love of people.

This loss has impacted all of us here at the council. As a lot of the staff are affected, particularly the library and Events Centre, we will be closing the library on Thursday 31 October so we can attend her celebration of her life.
