Media Statement:  Stage two wastewater storage reservoir construction set to get underway.

Construction of Carterton District Council’s wastewater storage reservoirs are set to get underway following the appointment of a contractor to undertake the works.

The wastewater storage reservoirs are part of stage two of the wastewater treatment plant upgrade on Daleton Farm. The three earth dam reservoirs are used to store treated wastewater. By being able to store the wastewater and irrigate to land will greatly reduce Council’s reliance on discharging to stream.

Being a significant part of the treatment plant upgrade, the Wastewater Treatment Plant Governance Group recently undertook a tender process to find a contractor who can suitably complete the project.

The successful tenderer was Central Hawkes Bay (CHB) Earthmovers Ltd of Waipukurau.

The Contract is scheduled to be completed before the end of May 2019 with preliminary work scheduled to commence in the near future.

Infrastructure Manager Dave Gittings says that Council is happy they have found a suitable contractor and can move forward with this important part of the project.

“Council looks forward to working with CHB in a collaborative manner to achieve the successful delivery of this stage of the wastewater improvement programme”

CHB will be undertaking some ground clearance work over Christmas with a formal works starting in the New Year.
