Responding to feedback from its community during the recent “Our Future Carterton” engagement prior to Christmas, Carterton District Council has put the wheels in motion to extend the weekend hours at the Dalefield Road Transfer Station.
Infrastructure and Services Manager, Garry Baker said that Carterton residents had provided plenty of feedback to encourage council to extend the hours.
“It was very clear that our residents needed longer hours to access the Dalefield Transfer Station. The weekends are particularly busy and it made sense to extend the hours on Saturday and Sunday.”
After initial conversations with the contractor the proposed extended hours were taken to council for the final sign off.
“All the councillors agreed that the extra hours were needed. They understood the frustrations felt by Carterton residents when trying to get to the transfer station with limited opening hours.”
Both days will be extended by an hour, meaning that the new Saturday hours will be 9am-12pm and Sunday 1.30pm-4.30pm. The new hours will come into effect on Saturday 3rd March.
Mr Baker says that receiving feedback on how to improve council services is always encouraged.
“We are always looking at ways to improve our services for Carterton residents, especially when it’s cost-effective. Feedback is invaluable, and always welcome.”
