Wednesday 21st February marked a special day for council and Hurunui o Rangi Marae, coming together to officially sign their MOU, formalising their working relationship.
Mayor John Booth acknowledged the importance of the partnership for the good of the community, and to recognise the marae as having mana whenua (authority over land of territory.)
The occasion was attended by representatives of Hurunui o Rangi Marae, Councillors and Council Officers.
Council presented Hurunui o Rangi with a carved pen to sign the agreement with; carefully hand crafted by Councillor Greg Land. The pen holder was engraved with the sketch of the Unity Sculpture which resides in front of the Events Centre, to represent the continuous efforts in which council and marae will respectfully work alongside each other.
